INTRODUCTION

Dear parents and guardians, compliments of the new season. We thank God who has taken us this far.

As Mother Touch Senior School (MTSS), we would like to welcome you all, our old and new parents/ guardians into 2020. We thank you for your faith in MTSS where our mandate is to identify the child’s talent and develop the learner holistically, for excellence and amazing success.

Our school starts at 0715hrs ending at 1500hrs from Monday to Thursday. On Friday school ends at 1300hrs. Monday and Friday are our assembly days and all learners are expected to put on complete uniform with blazer. Our sports days are Tuesday and Thursday and every learner should be in their full sporting attire. Sports attire includes sports short, house t shirts and sneakers and is available at school.

BOARDING SCHOOL

MTSS offers boarding facility to all our learners. Limited places are available in our boarding house.

CAMBRIDGE

We have introduced Cambridge syllabus starting with our current form 1 learners.

PAST EVENTS

Ghana : Pan African Debate Championships

MTSS Debate Team, the Zimbabwe High Schools Debate Championship winners, found itself at Akofena Ghana representing the country in the Pan African Union Debate Championships hosted at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. The team comprising Munyaradzi Nhari and Carol Neshava was a force to reckon with as the duo conquered. The debaters put a splendid performance which saw them coming out number 1 in Zimbabwe out of the winning colleges and universities. In Southern Africa they were voted number 3 out of 13 countries. This is not a mean feat and we want to say congratulations, amhlope ,makorokoto to MTSS for raising the school and country flag higher .

We would also want to thank the mentors who groomed the debaters for a job well done.

Handball: Cape Town Invitation Tournament

After a very successful sporting year, which saw four of our learners winning gold medals at the National Youth Games, Gweru in August, the handball team was invited to Cape Town, South Africa in December 2019.  The team showed great skill, resilience and sports acumen which left the guests clamouring for more. Due to their brilliance, they were invited to participate in Germany and Cape Town Tournaments this year 2020. The sky seems not to be the limit for the young leaders under the tutelage of our versatile and expert sports coach, Mr K. Madhodha . MTSS is no mere push over; we conquer in every sphere of life as we endeavour to build a holistic, all rounded and globally recognised leader.

UPCOMING EVENTS

In our endeavour to promote inclusive education and good rapport with our parents, guardians and all stakeholders, we invite all parents to our first event Meet the Teacher on 31 January 2020 from 0800hrs to 1000hrs.  We encourage all parents/ guardians to come and discuss with the teachers and get to know the school and teachers’ expectations in order for us to achieve the expected excellent results.

FIRST TERM SPORTING EVENTS

First term is characterised by athletics and it is compulsory for every learner to partake in at least one sporting event among an array of them for intellectual stimulation for success. Our sporting activities include sprints, throws, marathon, relays and jumps. Senior School Inter house athletics competitions are going to be held on 4 February 2020. We encourage parents and guardians to join us and motivate as well as support our children on the day. All the learners should be in their full respective school house sports attire on Tuesdays and Thursdays the practising day.

The sports department encourages every learner to have a passport. One of our goals is to have as many athletes as possible joining junior national teams and get the exposure to travel regionally, internationally and be true Global leaders.

CAREER EXPO.

MTSS will be hosting a Career Expo on 6 March 2020. The purpose of this event is to expose learners to a variety of career opportunities within the country and beyond borders. This will develop their knowledge, skills and attitude through a planned programme of experiences were learners make decisions that have a big impact on their lives. Facilitators/Personal from different institutions will be invited on the day to showcase different areas of occupation.

EDUCATIONAL AND LEADERSHIP TRAINING TRIPS

In order to marry theory and practice as stipulated by the updated Curriculum and 21st Century learning methods, the school makes it mandatory for learners to undertake all educational trips as shown on the school calendar. The leadership training trips are meant to build leadership and life skills that include confidence, assertiveness and well-groomed honest leaders who are bound to be trend setters and world changers.

AGRICULTURE TRIPS TERM 1 2020

FORM 1- GWEBI COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE:-The Form One Agriculture learners will be visiting Gwebi College of Agriculture on 29 January 2020 as part of their introduction to the practical subject. The cost will be equivalent to

FORM 2- HENDERSON RESEARCH CENTRE

The Form 2 class will tour Henderson Research Centre on 6 February 2020. This is an exploration and research tour for the learners which will give them an opportunity to discover new developments and innovations in the agricultural sector. The cost will be equivalent to US$6.

FORM 3 SEEDCO TOUR

On 13 February 2020, Form 3 learners will travel to Seed- Co Headquarters to go and research on seed production. The cost will be equivalent to US$ 5.

FORM 4 HATCLIFF TRIP

This trip is meant to prepare learners for their research projects and practical and it shall be undertaken on 26 February 2020. The cost will be equivalent to US$ 5.

GEOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT TRIPS

FORM 1 METEOROLOGICAL TOUR-

In order to give the Form One class an appreciation of climate change and weather forecasting, the learners are going to tour the Meteorological Center on 20 February 2020. The cost will be equivalent to US$ 5.

GLENARA ESTATE

Form 3, 4 and Lower 6 will tour one of the biggest estates in Zimbabwe, Glenara Estate on 2 March 2020. The cost will be US$6 equivalent.

MUKUVISI WOODLANDS

Form 2 classes will go for natural vegetation, flora and fauna tour at Mukuvisi Woodlands on 27 March 2020. The cost will be equivalent to US$ 5.

LAKE CHIVERO

Form 3, 4, L6 and U6- This comprehensive trip is meant to equip learners with environmental management skills and appreciation for environmental conservation. It will be undertaken on 28 March 2020. The cost will be equivalent to US $10.

FORM 1 & 2 KARIBA TRIP

The Form 1 and 2 learners will visit Kariba in the  second term from 19 to 21 June 2020.The purpose of the tour is to further inculcate exploration skills as well as exposing learners to the geographical activities at Kariba and the surrounding areas. The cost will be equivalent to US $200 which covers transport, accommodation, activities and other logistics.

HISTORY DEPARTMENT

FORM 4 NATIONAL GALLERY TOUR

On 5 March the Form 4 class will undertake a journey for historical sources gathering at the National Art Gallery in Harare. This is meant to expose the learners to first-hand information on historical evidence. It also gives them the opportunity to mix and mingle with resident historians at the gallery. The cost will be US $5 equivalent.

FORM 1 & 2 NATIONAL HEROES ACRE TOUR

This trip is meant to expose learners to the national heroes buried at the shrine. The trip is penned for 24 March 2020 and will also incorporate the English Language Department which will ask learners to compile comprehensive articles describing the national shrine and the heroes interred there. The cost will be US $5 equivalent.

FORM 3, 4, 5 & 6 CHINHOYI CAVES TOUR

On 21 March 2020 learners will tour Chinhoyi caves for its historical significance. The Shona Department will also be part and parcel of the tour as they seek to show learners the Shona Heritage, myths and taboos. The cost will be US $15 equivalent.

FORM 4 & 6 MATOPOS AND NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (NUST) TOUR

As a way of boosting learners’ knowledge on historical events and science experience, the Form 4 and 6 learners will visit Matopos and NUST in Bulawayo in the second term from  19 to 21 June 2020. This tour will further consolidate learners’ historical knowledge facts and scientific experience regarding our country. The cost will be US $170 equivalent.

ENGLISH DEPARTMENT

FORM 3 & 4 ZIFM RADIO STATION TOUR

In an endeavor to impart public speaking and speech skills in learners, the department will take learners to tour ZIFM studios on 5 March 2020. The tour is meant to inspire learners and enhance their oral communication skills. The cost will be US$5equivalent.

TECHNICAL GRAPHICS TRIP

Form 3 and 4 learners will undertake a journey to R G Mugabe International Airport on 1April where learners will visit specifically the Airport’s technical department and be exposed to how aircraft engineers / technicians maintain and repair airplanes as well as visiting the Airport’s Hanger. This will create a wider spectrum regarding our learners’ professional choices. The cost will be US $5 equivalent.

FORM 3 & 5 KARIMAZONDO TRIP

The Karimazondo leadership training trip is scheduled for the second term from 19 to 21 June 2020, as MTSS endeavor to produce a well-rounded learner through imparting leadership and life skills, grooming and etiquette. Prefects will be selected after this rigorous training which will be testing among other things the learners’ endurance, team work and leadership skills. The cost will be US 75 dollars equivalent, which covers transport, accommodation, food and other logistics.

INTERNATIONAL TOURS

UNITED KINGDOM TOUR (1 to 13 July 2020)

As part of the global village, MTSS ensures that learners are well exposed to the global village by participating in the Llangollen Eisteddfod in Wales where they will visit London and proceed to other parts of Europe such as Switzerland, France and others. This has become our annual international tour. The tour is a life changing experience as learners who have undertaken it have testified. This gives learners ample exposure and new perspective in their thinking and aspirations. This is our fifth international tour and we are expecting it to be bigger and better in 2020. The trip fee is 2700USD per learner which covers air tickets, visa, accommodation, food, activities, transport and or flights around the UK and Europe and other logistics.

In recognition of the importance of foreign trips in exposing learners to widen their knowledge and understanding different cultures through interaction with different people, MTSS will be undertaking trips to new destinations such as Dubai and China.

EXPO 2020 IN DUBAI

As MTSS we will participate in the famous Dubai EXPO will be conducted from October 2020 to March 2021. This is a wanted innovativeness show, which a must is participating for each child. The trip fee is $1700 U.S. per learner which covers air tickets, visa, accommodation, food, activities and transport around Dubai and other logistics.

CHINA TRIP

MTSS selected learners who passed the Chinese HSK examinations last year 2019 to go to China for a month’s summer school. The learners will learn Chinese language, mix and mingle with Chinese students, visit cultural centres like the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, and many others. Learners will also be taught how to cook Chinese food and calligraphy, also a bit of Chinese shadow boxing (taijiquan). Shopping time will also be allocated. The trip is sponsored by Hanban, which happen to be the headquarters of the Cofucius Institute.

EXEAT WEEKEND

Midterm break is going to be from 21 to 24 February 2020. Schools will resume on Tuesday 25 February 2020.

FEES AND LEVIES

We strive to continue working diligently to bring out the excellent results in our learners. However, we need parents’ support in order for us to produce the expected excellent results. We expect half of the fees to have been paid before schools open for the first term in January 2020 and the balance to be paid by end of January to enable the smooth running of our school.

We thrive to keep our staff members motivated and provide the necessary resources so as to attain the expected holistic results. As a school, we have no other source of income except the fees and levies. Our fees are ZWL$5000 per term which is subject to change. Practical subjects such as Science, Agriculture, TG and Computers will pay ZWL$100 per subject per term for practical consumables.

Note that we provide transport in places like Glenview, Budiriro, Mufakose, Glennorah, Highfields, City Centre, Avondale, Marlbrough, Westgate, Westlea, Kuwadzana, Dzivaresekwa and Glaudina at a cost of ZWL$2750 per term.
